Benefits of Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment is a program that enables high school students to take college-level courses at a public university that count for both high school and college credit. This South Dakota Board of Regents program is designed to give students a head start on their higher education journey.

Qualified professors and instructors teach the classes, which cover the same material as the courses offered to college students. By participating in dual enrollment, students can earn credits that can be applied toward their high school diploma and college degree, helping students save time and money in the long run.

Dual Credit

High School Dual Credit (HSDC) courses allow high school students who meet admissions standards to enroll in South Dakota’s public universities. Students taking HSDC courses earn credits for their high school diploma and college degree. Thanks to a program approved by the SD Legislature, students receive a discount for courses, paying only one-third of the cost on an already reduced credit hour rate.

Concurrent Credit

Concurrent Credit courses are dual credit courses offered at your high school. They are taught by a high school teacher who is qualified to teach college-level courses and are offered at $40 per credit hour.

Non-Degree
Seeking Admission

In certain instances, high school students may wish to take courses from BOR universities at the full tuition rate (including applicable fees). This is known as non-degree-seeking high school enrollment. Students must obtain approval from their high school to take courses under non-degree-seeking admission, which would count for credit at the high school level as well.
